The Eco Hive Composter from Zest is beneficial to the garden and environment as well as being an attractive addition to your outdoor area. Shaped like a traditional beehive, it has a large 405-litre capacity and an open base that helps to produce internal heat for faster composting.

The lid opens on either side and folds back on itself for easy removal to churn the compost and allow gardeners to easily harvest the compost from the 50 x 27cm lower hatch. Narrow gaps in the side panels allow air to circulate in the composter while keeping the rain out.

The angled timber boards keep the waste inside hidden and out of sight as well as having a more modern aesthetic and aid ventilation. The timber lid and side panels help to manage the temperature and moisture content, retaining the heat and ventilating the compost which is essential to speed up decomposition. The open base allows micro-organisms, worms and slugs from the ground to get into the waste heap and help to break it down into top-quality compost.

Care information
Allow your product time to adjust to its new location. Timber is a natural material with changes in temperature and humidity causing expansion and contraction. Any natural movement will not affect the strength of the product or its beauty but it can be useful to check the tightness of the screws and fixings around a month after assembly to accommodate any movement, and from time to time after that.
There's no need to treat your new Zest timber product with preservatives as it has been pressure-treated against rot for ten years. If you prefer to enhance its colour, the best time to do so is six months after taking delivery, which allows enough time for excess moisture from the pressure treatment to dry out. Use a well-known, reputable timber preservative.
Pressure treatment maximises product life and appearance retention, but when new, it may cause a little 'green spotting' on the surface of the timber. This is caused by natural salts leaving the wood. It will fade away over time and is no way detrimental to the product. If you notice any build-up of green mildew due to weather conditions, simply wash your Zest product with a solution of mild soap and warm water, rinse well with fresh water and leave to dry thoroughly.
